Sustainability

Preserving Nature. Treasuring Memories. Creating Art to Last.

Nature is at the heart of everything we do. Here is how we care for the flowers, the materials and the memories entrusted to us.

Sustainability at Pressed Flowers by Nell

Cherishing What Nature Gives Us

At Pressed Flowers by Nell, nature is at the heart of everything we do. Every petal tells a story, every bouquet holds a memory, and every piece of artwork we create is an opportunity to turn something beautiful into something lasting.

Founded on a childhood love of flowers and an art form passed down through generations, our business has always been about cherishing what nature gives us. From growing and pressing flowers to creating bespoke artwork by hand, we believe there is something truly special about making something meaningful that can be treasured for years to come.

For us, sustainability is about the bigger picture. It’s about respecting the natural materials we work with, supporting Irish craftsmanship, reducing waste wherever possible and continually making more considered choices.

“For me, sustainability is about cherishing what we already have. Flowers are naturally fleeting, but the memories they hold can last a lifetime. I love being able to give those flowers a new life as a piece of artwork that can be treasured for generations.”

Giving Flowers a Lasting Life

Flowers are naturally fleeting, but the memories attached to them deserve to last.

Our bridal bouquet preservation service gives wedding flowers a second life as a piece of bespoke artwork, transforming a bouquet that might otherwise fade away into a lasting reminder of one of life’s most meaningful moments.

Whether it’s a wedding bouquet or flowers from another treasured occasion, we carefully preserve the natural beauty of each bloom, allowing its story to live on long after the day itself has passed.

Grown in Nell’s garden

Made with Love, Inspired by Nature

Nature is both our inspiration and an important part of our creative process.

Many of the flowers used in our own creative work are grown in Nell’s garden, where they can be carefully nurtured, picked and pressed. Growing flowers ourselves allows us to connect more closely with the process, from watching each bloom grow to discovering how its natural colours, shapes and textures translate into pressed flower art.

Every flower has its own character, and we love celebrating those little differences in the artwork we create.

“I learned the art of flower pressing with my Nana when I was a little girl. Today, I still find the same magic in watching a flower transform into something you can keep forever. It’s a tradition I’m incredibly proud to carry forward.”

Irish craftsmanship

Handmade in Ireland

We are proud to support Irish craftsmanship through the materials we choose for our artwork.

Our frames are made in Ireland using wood sourced from sustainably managed forests in Cork. We believe the frame is an important part of the finished piece, carefully chosen to complement the flowers and protect the memories held within.

By choosing Irish-made frames, we celebrate local craftsmanship and the skill that goes into creating something beautiful to display and treasure in your home.

The materials behind our artwork

Considered Choices, Piece by Piece

The materials behind our artwork matter just as much as the flowers themselves. By paying attention to the materials we use, as well as the care that goes into each piece, we aim to create artwork that can be enjoyed and treasured for years to come.

Sustainably sourced wood

Acid-free mountboard

Selected for its quality and suitability for framing, to help minimise acid-related deterioration over time.

Recycled packaging

Made from recycled materials, recyclable and biodegradable, with boxes reused wherever possible.

Made to be treasured

The Most Meaningful Pieces Are the Ones You Never Want to Part With

Rather than creating something intended to be enjoyed for a moment, our aim is to make artwork that becomes part of your home, your family story and the memories you pass down through generations. From a wedding bouquet displayed in your first home together to flowers preserved in memory of someone you love, every piece is created with longevity in mind. With the right care, pressed flower artwork can be treasured for many years, becoming a lasting part of the stories we share and the homes we make.

Mindful of Waste

Being a small, hands-on business allows us to pay attention to the little things that can make a difference.

We reuse boxes and packaging materials wherever possible, including the boxes our frames arrive in. We also repurpose suitable offcuts and materials rather than automatically discarding them, and repair frames whenever we can.

These small, considered practices help us make better use of the materials we already have and reduce unnecessary waste in our day-to-day work.

For us, sustainability is about being thoughtful with our resources and continually looking for ways to do better.

“Running a small creative business has taught me how important the little things are. Reusing boxes, making the most of our materials and repairing things wherever possible are simple habits, but they’re part of how I want to run my business.”

On its journey to you

Packaging with Purpose

We want the care that goes into our packaging to reflect the care that goes into our artwork.

We choose packaging materials that are made from recycled materials and are recyclable and biodegradable. Our packaging is designed to protect each piece on its journey while helping us make more considered choices about the materials we use.

We also reuse suitable boxes and packaging wherever possible, giving materials another life rather than sending them straight to waste.

Caring for Your Artwork

Sustainability also means looking after the things we already have.

Pressed flower artwork is delicate, and proper care helps preserve its beauty for as long as possible. We encourage our customers to follow our artwork care guidance, including displaying their pieces away from direct sunlight, excessive heat and moisture.

By caring for your artwork and giving it a special place in your home, you can help protect the memories it holds for years to come.

A note from Nell

I feel incredibly lucky to spend my days surrounded by nature and the stories flowers hold.

I believe we have a responsibility to approach our materials with care, value the craftsmanship behind what we make and create pieces that are meaningful enough to be cherished for generations.

For me, sustainability is an ongoing commitment. It’s found in the flowers we grow, the materials we choose, the things we reuse and the care we put into every piece that leaves our studio.

I want every artwork we create to be more than just something beautiful. I want it to hold a story, preserve a memory and become something truly special for years to come.

Thank you for supporting a small, independent Irish business and for allowing us to be part of your most treasured memories.
